Pastor Fred's Sermon Audios
February 12, 2012
Today’s message is about trust in and obedience to God. The healing of Naaman, the Leper is not just a story of the healing of a man from one of the most dreaded diseases of ancient times, but it is a story of salvation, one which illustrates the spiritual salvation man finds only in Jesus Christ and how men come to find that salvation in Christ.

Today Pastor Fred tells us about the prophet Samuel. In the Old Testament, the Lord was instructing the people of Israel in dreams and visions to His prophets and priests. There were several periods during which the people of Israel did evil in the eyes of the Lord by worshipping idols. During those periods the word of the Lord became rare and there were not many visions. The Lord also delivered them to the hands of their enemies until they repented and returned to Him. He then gave them prophets and judges to lead them to His way and to rescue them from their oppressors. Samuel was a prophet who was dedicated to the service of the Lord before his birth. During his lifetime he anointed the first two kings of Israel, Saul and David.
It is worth noting that in Isaiah 40:21-31 the promises of God's strength were addressed first to a people in despair, the Jews in exile in Babylon, those who had seen their city and Temple destroyed by an invading army, those who were far from home with no hope of returning. These are those who feel abandoned and forgotten by God. Their weariness is not so much physical as it is spiritual. They are heartsick, hopeless and sapped of strength. That could describe us many times in our lives. It is comforting to know that God, who loves us, is in control no matter what. Today Pastor Fred tells of these promises to hurting people.

We must use discernment to recognize false prophets. The motivations for false prophecy are many: control, manipulation, power, money, etc. If someone says they speak the Word of God while telling you to do something, are you to argue? The LORD is aware of the dangers of false prophets and has given warnings against them. He also gives us tests we can use to help us determine if the prophet is legitimate. Pastor Fred discusses these dangers, gives examples and describes those tests we can use to identify the false prophet.
