Pastoral life has provided him many opportunities to serve in the community, including as a first responder on an ambulance squad. He has served on staff as a hospital chaplain and on various boards and committees such as Pregnancy Care Centers, Adoption Agencies
and a Human Rights board for the developmentally disabled. Currently he serves on the board of directors for Lutheran Social
Services of the Southwest. He is also a certified Stephen Ministries Leader.
Pastor Fred particularly enjoys some of the
opportunities for adventure that have come with ministry. He once rode a horse on a real cattle drive; something he says
he has no desire to ever do again. He has also jumped out of an airplane because it "seemed like a good idea at the time."
He enjoys hiking and would enjoy hiking the Grand Canyon again.
When he is not busy writing sermons or doing other church work
he enjoys cooking, watching the Food Network and reading cookbooks. He is also a life-long Minnesota Vikings fan and has a picture
of himself and his son Charlie standing in front of the bust of Fran Tarkenton at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. He also has a football signed by Bud Grant, and many of the Hall of Fame players from the Vikings proudly displayed in his office.
He
is married to Darla Hearn and they have twins, a son and a daughter, Charlie and Jasmine.
Sue Nelson (Learning Center
Director) has been in the early childhood field since 1993, and in ministry since 1980. She spent 12 years in San Diego and moved
to Phoenix in 2004. Her passion is to create an early love of learning in each child. She holds credentials as a Site Supervisor
in Early Childhood and has been the director at Family of Christ since 2004.
Learning Center Teachers and Assistants have
received various training in early childhood development and are committed to educating young children of the local community.

Pastor Fred Hearn was installed as Pastor of Family of Christ Church in January of 2007. He grew up in Montana and Idaho. He spent a good portion of his growing up years camping and fishing in Western Montana and Northern Idaho. Three days after
high school graduation he found himself standing on the golden footprints outside of Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego. After
completion of boot camp and artillery training, he spent four years in the Marine Corps Reserves. While serving in the Reserves
he was also a student at the University of Idaho. He graduated from there in 1988 and moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and
attended Seminary at Concordia Theological Seminary. He graduated in 1993 and since that time has served churches in North
Dakota, Idaho, Indiana and now Arizona.
